Compress doesn't change your image's format — a JPEG stays a JPEG, an AVIF stays an AVIF — it only re-encodes it at a lower quality to shrink the file. One image at a time, with a live before/after size comparison so you can see exactly what you're trading for the smaller file. If you want to switch to AVIF itself, use the converter tools instead of Compress.
